This grade of wire material falls under ASTM A 401 / A 877 and ASTM A 1000. EU based standards also apply such as DIN 2076/17223-2 and EN 10270-2 for this material grade. What makes this alloy unique is its extremely high tensile strength and the capability to withstand relatively high temperatures up to 400 F (204 C) hence its other use is in engine valve springs. The trade off with this material is that it has to be stress relieved quickly, within one hour after it is formed especially if the spring has a small index, otherwise micro cracks will form, and the springs will fail in operation.   This is where our most recent acquisition comes in. CTI purchased a Pyromaitre in-line electric oven. The capacity is 1365 lbs. / hr., and it also includes Pyrograph software to ensure that proper time and temperatures are applied to the given application as we process other grades of carbon and stainless steels. What makes these ovens unique is that they are highly insulated and super-efficient which allows us to reduce the time at temperature by as much as 50% over standard conventional ovens. These ovens also meet QCI-9 uniformity requirements allowing CTI to be compliant with CQI-9 standards.
